about us

Hello, I’m Ali, the founder of Workpants. I have a story to tell you.

Ali Killaly Workpants founder

It was 3 am and I was up nursing my youngest. I was on parental leave round two and the job I had hoped to return to had just dissolved. It happened the last time I went on parental leave too, and I was feeling really lost. How was I supposed to navigate such a major life moment with my new baby and manage the career twists and turns that lay ahead?  While feeding and worrying I was also on my phone with the Canva app open, trying to design a logo - the one you're looking at with the jazzy green pants forming the high crotch of a W. If you could read my tired mind at that moment, you'd learn that I was thinking about how many other people were also losing sleep over work worries.

This is why we have Workpants - a business with the purpose of helping others design work that fits - and we're extra passionate about supporting working parents.

Maybe like me, you’re struggling to recall if you got any career education at school. Career development theory has increasingly evolved from an “expert” telling us what we should do, to a “facilitator” to support us with strategies to take matters into our own hands. Workpants is your support crew, and it starts with me. My background is in marketing, communications, education and learning design and over the years I've worked with a range of folks - from small family businesses to Silicon Valley tech giants, with government agencies and the private sector.

My early career featured many jobs where cheap black polyester stretch pants made up the lower half of my uniform. These days I’m all about comfort and pockets. The home of Workpants is the lands and waters of the Kabi Kabi people, also known as the glorious Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, but our virtual approach means we work with people far and wide. That’s my story - I hope I get to hear yours one day too.

Now please allow me to introduce you to
the wonderful Workpants team.

profit and purpose

By now, you've probably got the sense that we're big on purpose.

Guess what? We're also here to make a profit - yes, we said what we said. Profit means we're a healthy organisation. It means we can innovate and make the Workpants experience even more impactful. We work with excellent career counsellors and pay them well for their valuable contributions because that's the right thing to do. We also walk the walk because we want the same for you - fair pay for your valuable contribution.

We're growing a fund to offer career counselling for those who have the odds stacked against them, folks who couldn't make this personal investment and may not be able to secure it through their workplace or the government. This is really important, because of the positive ripple effect that occurs when folks can take charge of their own career development.  If you're a workplace, there are special ways you can help, talk to us about how.

We're also proud to support the equidi Gender Equity Movement - the GEM.
